Sabbath Rest

I think the concept of Sabbath Rest, or rest in general is foreign in our culture. Sure, we all like being "off" work and chillin' out with friends and family, but how many of us truly take that time to rest. I mean really rest. Not go and fix the sink, or run the lawnmower, or go into town. I mean rest. I realize you are probably thinking "Well, I only get so much time off to go do stuff." I understand that I am the same way.

In the Bible, God rested on the 7th day. Though it is technically the first day of the week, many of us view Sunday as the 7th day, and a lot of people do rest on that day. They rest so much they don't even go to church. But for people who are pastors like myself, Sunday is potentially our biggest "work" day. I do realize we are serving the Lord and really just living out our calling on that day, but it is still work none the less. That makes Sunday's out for us.

Saturdays are a rare commodity, especially in ministry, and I am sure for a lot of you too. So what is the answer?

While I don't know what you can do to truly have a full day off to rest, I do know what the Bible says. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 This is such a blessed verse and a verse that brings much comfort. We all have a lot of things going on, it's hard to just sit, relax and let God take on our burdens. It doesn't seem fair to God, but you see, He offered. Come to me...Jesus says.

I wonder, do you come to Jesus? What will it take for you to come? I pray you take some time today, whatever you may be doing, and rest in the arms of Jesus!
