As many people know, September 24th, 2008 (otherwise known as yesterday) was See You At the Pole day. For those of you that don't know, this is a nation-wide event where students meet at their flagpole (typically 30 minutes before school starts) to pray for their school, their faculty, staff, leaders, world leaders, President, et cetera. Also, a time when they pray for their friends they see in school everyday. I participated in this when I was in High School, and my youth pastor would come to my school when we prayed. It's neat now being the youth pastor, and since a majority of my students are from two schools (the rest being home schooled) I was able to go to one last year, and the second one this year. It was awesome to hear my students as well as others with a burden for their fellow classmates and even their teachers!
Well, in Portsmouth, among the Southern Baptists, Nansmond River Baptist Church holds a See you at the pole rally in the evening. So, in lou of our regular Wednesday service, we went over there. We had 19 students go (which is a personal best for a Wednesday Night) and after the music and the speaker, 3 of my students professed that they needed Christ, and I got to personally lead them to HIM! That's a special thing. I've been able to personally lead 4 students to Christ in a youth group thats grown from 8-12-16 and now to 19-20. God has been so good, and I am so thankful for that opportunity.
More than all the kids who come, or the activities we do, or whatever may seem like a very cool thing, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compares to knowing and having a personal realationship with Jesus Christ. NOTHING! Seeing a youth in my group, let alone being able to lead them to Christ, is a Very Special Thing, and something I do not take lightly!
Christ is awesome, and I look forward to the change in these Youth(s) lives!
That's something to celebrate indeed!
